In a relatively short period of time, LinkedIn has gone from 'glorified jobs site' to 'essential business resource'. For most business people on LinkedIn you really now need to look at it as an asset of your business - rather than just a 'social utility' as some people call it.
And something else, it's quite amazing how a few carefully made strategic changes to your LinkedIn page can create a massive jump in visits to your profile.
It proves what I've always said; don't just post a profile on LinkedIn; post it, tweak it, monitor it, tweak it, monitor it and tweak it again until it gets the results you want.
It works for me.
