Many people already know the trick of adding video to a PowerPoint presentation, uploading the presentation to SlideShare and then hooking up your LinkedIn and SlideShare accounts in the additional profile options; but what a lot of people don't know is this trick.
Simply share a status update on the LinkedIn home page which contains a link to a video on YouTube, and the video later appears in your Activity stream on the right side of your profile.
You initially see a thumbnail of the video in your Activity stream, but when it's clicked, the full video appears and plays in all its glory. Yes, it's that simple, but another easy way to get video onto your LinkedIn profile. The bonus is that your status update also appears on the LinkedIn home page timeline, so all of your connections potentially get to see it and engage with it through Likes, Comments and Shares.
If you have a Company page on LinkedIn, you can also add a Company status update which includes a video link, and again it will play when clicked. It's also worth bearing in mind, that you can also add videos in the Products and Services section of your Company page.
If you didn't already know, you can also add video in updates in LinkedIn groups. The only difference here is that the video doesn't play on the page - it clicks through to the video source.
So, video can be hugely powerful to help you get seen, and there are several ways that you can do it on LinkedIn even if LinkedIn doesn't (yet) provide a dedicated video section on your profile.
But get this, and shhh - don't tell anyone... hardly anyone posts status updates on LinkedIn which link to videos. Most people post links to Blogs. So use LinkedIn to highlight your video, and when you do, you'll be clearly differentiating yourself.
